Thoughts of Chairmanmark ... As there are lots of new indoor fliers about these days it migth be nice just to recap the Aeronutz Fun Fly thing. We have the hall for six hours, thats a long time, which is good for folks who are developing new machines and ideas (or take ages to find thier glasses) We are here to have fun, people not having fun will be shot.

You are invited to our fun fly on Saturday 20th October 2001 at Parklands Leisure Centre Oadby, South Leicester £8 per flier/family. Fliers of machines over 10g must be insured (£1 coin weighs 9.5g) Remote control fliers can fly at anytime but their machines must weigh less than 85g and be of scale appearance - so no stick planes please, ask before travelling.
Tables and chairs provided, fishing pole too. Bring a warm jumper. 5PM UNTIL 11PMIt must be winter soon, Fun Flying is back, the nights are drawing in and ASDA have those nice little spiced fruit tea cake things you toast.
Summer Fun! - . "I made a half size Malmstrom Martian for the GM 24 Co2 and it flew well outdoors. I put it back in the boot and on the way home the co2 bottle steam rollered it and another to bits. I'm doing another for the KP00 but this time I'm keeping the Co2 bottle in a box" Anon!
Dr Chris has an article in this months Model Flyer magazine about his successful one cell infra red controlled models.
President Joe has bought an infra red control system, so there should be some interesting new machines in the north east this winter.
For cheap AA rechargeable cells, check out Wilkinsons, Uniross NiCd and NiMH. Good for transmitters, winders and charging capaciotrs. We can help with a cheap DIY charger too

FMA are not going to produce the Z Tron infra red control system. Alternative arrangements are being considered. Mark has a couple of Tx kits at the moment if you are interested.
Mark’s long time desire to have a micro gas turbine for indoor use could soon be fullfilled as he has bought a lathe and Bernard is working on some very high energy to weight liquid fuel. Bernard’s jugle juice is made from Berillium, nitrates and the green stuff in washing up liquid (its got a fancy name, begins with T….) Bernies bath tub test have been very encouraging if the holes in the shower curtian are anything to go by. There are still some technical issues to be sorted out though - well, to cut a long story short, he's in ward three - grapes, preferably seedless.
Talking to other Nutz is encouraged, some of them know what they are talking about.
If you are flying R/C or I/R machines it’s up to you to make sure you don’t accidently use your Tx and damage someones elses toy plane. In general it’s up to you to keep the event safe and happy, if its not - the fun is over and we close the book on Aeronutz.
You are enouraged to ask questions and have-a-go, failure means you have not got it all sorted out yet, its OK we have all struggled in the past, and still do if you take on difficult projects.
There are no separate flying times for F/F and R/C planes, it's a big hall and we have lots of time, so do the right thing, be a little patient now and then.
If you have a quesion about the venue or what not ask Mark or Simon, there is usually an answer - don’t ask the Parklands folks! The heating is off because it is linked to the fans and outside wall shutters.
You can bring your take way food into the foyer area cafe and sit and eat it there, Oadby has lots of take a way food. Ring 'em up and they usually deliver for free, all the locals know where Parklands is. There are two sets of loos, when you come out the hall turn left and go down the corridoor on the right, smile at the camara (in the corridoor!)
Do not move heavy tables and chairs about, its not your job and you might hurt yourself. The Aeronutz carbon fibre fishing pole is getting a bit olde, it is breaking up so be carefull with it. Also be very carefull not to touch anything electrical, it will conduct electricity!! If in doubt leave it to Mark and Simon, we have been known to come back the following moring at resque planes. Mark has a O level in high altitude plane retreval. Anyway getting stuck in the roof is a sign of inexperience, "Slow on the way up - slow on the way down"
The Parklands phone number is 0116 2720789, call them to check the event is on if you are travelling a long way. If it snows I will be there. The bar is usally open at 7:30pm if there is another event on in one of the other rooms. If not there are a couple of vending machines. Mark sits near the entrance and has a soldering iron.Remote control. Nice to hear from President Joe. He says he has not been too well and has had a pace maker fitted. Mrs President chose the device at the last moment, the little wonder has several pre set speeds ranging from dead slow (Friday night in the pub) to all ahead (painting the window frames) Hopefully he will find where Mrs President hides the remote and we will have models stacked all over the house.
We may be able to fit remote control to really small planes in a year or too if this is anything to go by. How do you sold the wires on dad?
I am please to say there are a lot of indoor venues about these days, many of them do not allow R/C models and soome of the newer venues have been set up just for R/C flying. I would expect to see more indoor R/C in the future as the big manufactures are now making very light and cheap components. I still think it’s a good idea to mix both in the way the Aeronutz do, but then we have much smaller R/C planes and they don’t fly for too long - they are interesting machines too.

Lots of indoor fun flying way down south in Hampshire. A new R/C planes only event is being organised by the Waltham Chase Aeromodellers while Ken's F/F indoor antics (antiques?) are going very well too.
Bernard has been selling his electric, free flight two cell, Depron models, he sold five at our last event!!

The National Space Centre has now opened in Leicester. Could be worth combining a trip to that and a Fun Fly? Features include a space shuttle mission mock up thingy and has two big rockets. The outer fabric of the building took three months to inflate using Simon's bike poomp (It's French) Click here
Falcon Kits (RCS Technik) have an excellent new kit, a DH60. The streamlined bipe is beautifully designed and laser cut with lots of scale detail and three CAD drawings. Flying weight will be about 85g with indoor servos, uses five or six cells. The model is finished in metalised film and can be painted in a variety of colours popular at the time, maroon, green or like the proto type model, blue

New DH60 kitWe are looking forward to seeing Andy’s new machine, he will be along with his co pilot. He says the new one is looking better than the last, which flew horizontally ok and turn well.
Hello to all the new folks!Yet again the Aeronutz are developing new indoor machines.
Mark has made two new 14” span F4U Corsairs. One for rubber power with rudder control (11g) and the other is two channel and electric power (20g). They both use 2.5mm thick Depron wings with just a little airfoil bent into them and the LE and TE edges sanded to shape. The big drawback with this design of wing is that the dihedral breaks are just a very simple butt joint, which not very strong compared to a double skin design. To make these joints accurately, Mark has made a couple of jigs to get the angles right. Infra Red News
Our two cell, two channel planes are now well developed. This autumns design projects include making carbon fibre props which are thin in cross section whilst being tough and rigid so they don’t flex in use.
Mark has found that using the wrapper from a packet of cigarettes as a hinge produces a little self-centring, so we can try using a 200 Ohm coil actuator for the elevator.
Direct drive is OK for two cells but uses lots of current, gears are noisy and tricky to line up. Belt drive has been used by Andrew and seems OK for the small amount of power a KP00 produces on two cells.
Now there are more than two IR systems in use at Parklands we could do with a detector so we know not to switch on.

Anyway, put all those together and we will be flying 26g, three Channel Sea Furys and Mk III Spits at Christmas.Mark, Dr Chris and Andrew are building new twin steering twin engine planes using the IR twin motor control system. Andrew has another Catalina on the go while Mark has a Beaufighter underway. Ray has a new, smaller, twin motor steering Mosquito. It weighs 43g, uses two 50mA NiCd cells, “B2” direct drive motors and Union 80mm props. It flew at Nottingham but lost a wire to one of the motors so we hop to see it going well at our next event at Oadby.
The simple cabin style two cell planes are now giving way to more advanced designs. Ray has a Hurricane flying, two cells, geared KP00 with a slightly large DIY prop. Lots of power but the rudder did not seem to have much movment - easily fixed, 30g flying weight, Depron wing, 16” span.. Nice to see the new control systems being put to good use.
. Mark’s Corsair flew very well on its seconds day out. It did a three minute flight and was stable once trimmed. It did not want to turn right though, a little left thrust and or left bank woudl sort this out? We will see out our next Fun Fly, thanks to Graham for test flying - he got it down without damage. Mark is building a Mig 3 as a "Sunday Best" development of the Corsair. The Mig 3 is similar to a P51 and will be finished in white winter camouflage with red markings, cockpit, pilot etc. He is also building a two cell, two channel, 1934 Lufthansa Focke Wolf A13Rubber power remote control development continues with a Depron wing, 2mm wall foam fuselage Corsair. It flew outdoors in the summer but needs a better prop and the correct size rubber.
Peter Smart and the eastern foam carvers have been making some super rocket powered airliners for outdoor use, stick and tissue construction. Check out the photos in this months Aviation Modeller International, which also has a nice article on the high altitude solar powered flying wing by Airvironment.

John had a super flight from his 12” span Fury biplane. Looks really nice with pilot and lots of scale detail along with his Roland C2.We would like to see inra red controlled planes using Co2 power. A new web page has been created for this area of development IRCo2. Sweden's finest are working on this exciting new project, more details when we have them.
