Z TRON Infrared Receiver Combo
Rev 3-01
Drives 2 proportional actuators, includes 1A ESC and a DC\DC converter (from 1 or 2 cells to 5V)
Notes :
If you are not experienced with Surface Mounted (SMT) devices, let somebody else do the work.
Use a very fine, 12-15W soldering iron and a good magnifying glass or microscope tool.
Dont overheat the little components. The board is pretinted and only a little quick solder is necessary.
Observe static electricity rules for static sensitive devices (U1, U2, U3, U4).
Make sure you dont short the Motor negative connection to the thin line around the M- pad.Complete board
The completed board should be around 1 gram without any wires attached.Battery
The battery can be a one or two cell, NiCD or NiMH, or anything else that can supply 1.2 - 3.6 Volts at 200mA, minimum.
50 mAH NiCDs or 110 - 150 mAH NiMH have been used with good results.
Some experimentation with super caps (1F to 50F) have shown a promising alternative (see the Aeronutz Web site).Actuators
The Actuators have to be 200 Ohm, center return (mechanically or magnetically). BIRD actuators and Aeronutz actuators work very well. BIRD actuators are sold by John Worth and Aeronutz actuators can be ordered from the Aeronutz in Europe or from Z TRON in the US.Sensors
Those can be ordered from Z TRON only for the right modulation and type.
For small Indoor places up to 50 x 100, one sensor will do OK. For larger places you need two sensors.
Place a single sensor underneath the model facing downwards or one sensor on each wing tip for better results.Motor
Any motor that draws less than 1A will do. KP00, KR1 and all the pager motor do well.
Many models fly on Rubber powered planes or small CO2 engines very well.Possible setups
For Indoor use only.
Many users fly outdoors on cloudy days and at night. You might experience temporary loss of signal outdoors, depending on the natural or other lighting. Sunshine is the worst Infrared signal enemy.
2 cells and a KP00 motor, 1 or 2 actuators.
1 cell and pager motor, 1 or 2 actuators.
1 cell or one 1F cap and rubber-powered motor, one actuator.
1 cell and CO2 engine, one or two actuators.Planes
Any small, 8 to 30, lightweight, 5 gram to 50 gram, should work well with this receiver.Price
Kit is $35 and assembled is $45 (USD)
