Non scale R/C indoor and also park flier kits machines are BANNED, BANNED, BANNED, BANNED FROM OUR FUN FLY EVENTS, DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. We will not accept any excuses from now on. If in doubt ask before you travel However, there are a couple of new venues that are designed specifically for these machines, interested folks are encouraged to contact George Stringwell or Neil Stainton.
Our web site has had 3000 hits by mid Feb, Simon has updated it with more photos his Shorts Southampton IR twin, Mark with Gladiator and 16" R/C Albatross, Simons micro R/C glider, Tango! flying outdoors, New CNC cut balsa and Mylar SE5. If you click on the photos they are enlarged and sometimes show a different picture too.
Remote Control
Chris from RCS Technik flew a prototype SE5 which will become a kit, CNC cut balsa and Mylar. It looked and flew very well and he looked suitably pleased. Ken Sheppard the editor of Aeromodeller has a balsa /Mylar Bristol Scout for indoor R/C, goes really well. Ray couldnt get his 16" span two channel Hurricane unstuck, uses an HS50 which is a bit too heavy me thinks? More proof that R/C planes need as much skill as F/F to get them to fly. Nice flying from JMP who have designed and made a 9.5g R/C machine, uses one 50mA NiCd, two actuators and tinny weeny motor. Flew for three minutes. Simon test flew Marks new 4 x 50mA powered Albatross, 16" span, foam, two channel. A data sheet for it is available and a full plan will follow. It is much cheaper to make due to its low cost motor, prop and speed controller. Total weight Is 46g which gives a wing loading of 2.5 oz/Sq. Ft. Initial take off runs resulted in the model nosing over forwards too much nose weight, stiff wheels and no up elevator. After about four attempts he got it off and up she went, plenty of power and not too fast. Tricky to fly due to its huge rudder throw since corrected. A couple of wobbly trips round the hall and the prospect of landing loomed large. Sensing the little models plight Ken Swales took the initiative and bravely stepped forwards to let the little Albatross land on his soft shoulder, right up close to his left ear well done that man! All that was buggered - one of the interplane struts came un-glued.
Dave had a new two channel Flea on five 50 mA cells, flew very well as you would expect, had lots of scale details too. Look forward to seeing his smaller three cell Flea flying with two channel R/C
Park Fliers - Simon is building a nice R/C machine from Depron, its a scale, low wing 1930s Czech. made Avia. It will use cheap R/C gear and motor, it has various interesting paint schemes too. more details later. Marks new rubber free flight machines should be good park fliers as they are based on the successful Tango! design.
Potensky have a new Lithium battery charger, plus some battry packs made from Lithium cells. One 6 volt pack and charger come to about £32 from Flighthook. You need a special charger for Lithium cells
Rubber Mark has designed another simple model for use with the Ikara prop, it is slightly smaller than the Tango and would be ideal for a teaching aid in schools, easy to make and fly, a teaching pack could include notes on art, structures, manufacturing design, calculations. It features a lifting fuselage Bernards mini size "Penny" helicopter went well and he also had some nice flights from his Burelli twin electric motor lifting fuselage machine. John has done an excellent little SE5 which was beautifully made, really nice pilot. Andrew had a couple of new park fliers, nice R/C Miles and a F/F ducted fan Provost that could have done with a JMP gas turbine up it. New man from Melton (got him name here somewhere) has successfully made a Jigglet and moved onto a vintage design with Co2 motor which looked and flew really nice, Watford man (got his name here somewhere) managed to get his Butterfly stuck at the very highest point possible, two finishing poles stuck together could only just get to it. Hello to the new folks who came along. Barrys canard Shinden had some excellent flights, his x wing fighter thing was going better and he had two new colourful stagger wings, one went well but I cant remember the other we had a big turn out and there where planes all over the place. Mark is designing some new F/F rubber models that use the white Ikara prop (Butterfly) he had reasonable success with two new machines, a WW2 10" Mig 3 fighter and a 15" jet airliner. Both will be made into plans and should be good summer evening park fliers. Geoff has made on of Marks Mig 15s at twice the plan size, goes really well as does his F/F electric yellow Tiger Moth.
Aeromodeller have a profile Mosquito twin motor F/F rubber design made from 2mm foam, with plastic props, designed by a young chap, which is good to see, not surprising though as young folks are clever than old people! - otherwise we would still be living in caves. Lots of new venues in the diary section (except ours!) small stick and tissue R/C machine, letter form a French builder who made one of Andrews Depron f/f designs, but he couldnt find any Bison Clear Adhesive, some of the traditional builders have made nice miniature foam planes.
Bernard has made an Aeronutz winder counter but with another output shaft which is reduced by 50% for more power, for up to 100 thou. rubber.
Park Flier - Mark got his Tango in another tree, near the war memorial on Victoria Park, it was not there the next day, no sign of it anywhere. Aeromodeller will publish it as a park flier / indoor machine in the early summer.
George Stringwell of Electric Flight and CHEFS model club has made an excellent foam R/C SE5 with super detailing, 8 cells? - based on Daves design.
Flight Hook are coming up to our Feb 26th event.
