Aeronutz Controversy!

Last months suggestion that aeromodellers can’t dress proper has prompted a flood of letters. Unrepentant, Mark is sticking by his prediction, yellow will be this summers colour. And no, we are not talking socks or in combination with purple or salmon pink.

No need to get in a flap about ornithopters, as John “Birdy” Mack has found a new web site with lots of data and a plan for you to down load –WWW.http://www.catskill.net/evolution/flight/freebird/

Mark’s new super computer is one similar to those used at the Guardian Newspaper, it has an up to date spell cheuqer so there not be any errors at all in future.

Spokesfest 2000 is worth a visit, you can ride Purple Ronnie see two human powered aircraft (see http://home.primusnetz.de/pfrank/hpa.htm) and the worlds only human powered hovercraft or www.spokesfest.freeserve.co.uk

Mark has written an article on state-of-the-art micro remote control indoor scale looking type machines for Quit Flight International (Traplet) It will appear in two issues. He’s also done a piece on infra red for Model Flier and Wayne at Ezone could do will something on building with 2mm foam.

The Tango! F/F rubber vintage style design is in this months Aeromodeller just right for a bit of summer evening local park flying . And Simon’s funky micro ARTF R/C glider conversion is in this months Model Flier – so dig deep and splash the cash/you might like to buy a copy* RCS Technik web site (rcscale.co.uk) has the DH2 on it now, about £45 for the CNC balsa kit. David Deadman has bought one of Simon infra red twin motor, electric flying wings.

Undies - Are Y fronts better for indoors flying?

Ray’s little R/C Tiger Moth and twin motor R/C Mosquito are flying very nicely. Mark’s 14” infra red controlled Stagger Wing now gets off the ground but is a bit unstable and underpowered, however it is a good bench mark for future development. Simon has changed the thrust on his Flying wing and it goes even better! Simon’s undies can be seen in this months Model Flyer.

American has banned foam from indoor comps?

Technology. Z Tron are making good progress with the new Digital servo controller, we understand it will be able to run independent from the servo motor , so we can use our DC/DC voltage boosters to allow use to run servos at 1v without consuming huge amounts of power. Mark has sent them his last 6” span F4U Corsair, he seems very pleased with it.

Richard and his brother are working on a secrete micro R/C system.

Mike Watters is in Electric Flight International, with his super infra red controlled foam Cub, three cells and two magnetic actuators and R/C Blackburn mono plane. Both made from 2mm foam.

Mark has ordered some Muscle Wire to test .....Alas the postage from the USA costs as much as the wire! Peter Smart has an infra red twin steer system, he’s going to put it in his new 28” span biplane twin Vickers .... (eh, forgot it’s name, he did tell - I don‘t just make these things up you know) Phil and chums had a model controlled by Muscle Wire, looked to be working very reliably, very interesting. “Just” warm the wire and it changes shape, 4% seems a reasonable amount.

Andrew has added two transistors to his Twin Turbo system so he can use much more power in his Catalina(s)

The old Aeronutz computer is now for sale ..... money goes back into the club fund, £100, 486 66Hz lots of software, Internet ready.

Bird Strike! Dave Ridgeway’s new bi wing, rubber powered, ornithopter turns out to be a Peregrine Flapper. Every time he does a mass lunch with Ray and John it zooms over and knobbles the other two! Dave has nearly finished an outdoor electric flapper with R/C - should be finished any day now. Brian (Rays co-pilot) has some super F/F planes, a really nice canard, belt drive rubber power, twin motor twin rubber,

* delete depending on your age.

Barry’s German twin rubber thingy went a bit better after Andrew breathed on it. Did I see a Jigglet with Butterfly prop on the front? Seemed to be going well.

Geoff from Northampton had some very well made stick and tissue outdoor F/F rubber jobs, bit big for indoor – much wall bashing., but up to David Deadman's standards.

Model Flyer has a nice article about scientists trying to make insect like spy planes. The Aeronutz are also working on a similar project - but we are just going to teach a Dragonfly to speak English, much easier!

The Aeronutz Pulse Width Modulation Award for 1999 goes to Sergio Zigras for his twin steer infra red Rx. Next years prize goes to him too, for his Digital servo circuit, but don’t tell him.

Stuart Marsden is doing something on indoor developments for Aeromodeller.

Outdoors this summer? Join the shady-hat-set at Barkston and Old Warden, better take your waterproof sun cream along .... maybe have ago on the local park with a Tango!

Rick Ruijsink is planning to come to our October Fun Fly. (Magazine editors are asked to form an orderly queue.)

Flite Hook are coming to our next Fun Fly. (Only 412 shopping days left until Mark’s 40th Birthday ...)
